2nd Annual Nashville Trip/TCTBO Comp

Man its been a while since the last update but here goes.

So Thursday, the 26th, Garrett and I packed our bags and set out for Nashville after work. The ride down was shitty and rainy and full of awesome music, as it always is. Luckily, though, we arrived early enough to catch up with Nashville resident Eric Boner for a couple brews a quick late night drunk session.

After our fun was had at this amazing ledge spot, we headed back to the Slobey residence for some late night grub and rest.

Friday began in a traditional Slobey fashion which, for those of you who don't know, involves a fantastic home cooked meal, and then it was off to Asphalt Beach to catch up and meet up with the locals.

After watching a skate video or two, we headed out with locals Zach Leavall and this kid with no other name than 'Box'. Slobey started off the session with this exceptionally wild Roof to Topsoul:

From that point on we just skated what we saw and handled business on the streets of Nashville. The night ended as most of our nights in Asheville do, kicking it with a bunch of homies and consuming way to much alcohol...good times.

The next morning, we were treated to another Slobey breakfast and then promptly headed out to Asphalt Beach to meet up with everyone again, and I do mean everyone, I think at one point we were rolling about 20-25 deep maybe?...it was awesome.

The first spot was one that Garrett had been telling me about for ages called Legislative Plaza. It's full of beautiful large architecture, a plethora of skate spots and occupiers galore, it was quite the sight and proved to be quite the spot.

Upon arrival, Garrett wasted no time handling this rather long/steep handrail skating no slower than Mach 5.

After a few more hammers there, everyone headed out to this next really awesome ledge/bank spot.

Later on that night, we linked up with Adam Ehalt and Troy Sanders, to once again go back to the Slobey homestead for showers and food before we did continued our annual tradition of going out to Nashville bars....it proved to be another awesome, hilarious time in downtown Nashville.

Right before the bar though, Ehalt, Troy and I did some buzzed blading and Troy got these two awesome pictures:

Luckily, this year I didn't go too overboard drinking the night before so I was able to skate in the TCTBO comp this year. Little did I know, 25 constitutes being an old man, which was awesome because I got to enter Old Man and place 3rd, I was pretty excited about it and had a blast, suck it Slobey.

After the standings were announced, Ehalt and Troy split ways and we made our way back to Greenville.

About an hour and a half away from home, Garrett and I make a pitstop and when we get back into the car, the engine starts knocking...fml. Luckily, homie Dustin Hinson came to the rescue and got us back home.

Here in the near future I plan on start releasing a bunch of edits to get all this old footage off my computer. Mostly I want to release this Garrett Slobey edit because I have a lot of really awesome footage of the old guy and can't wait to show you guys what he's been up to. But anywho, stay tuned.

205: NC Adventures/Merry Christmas Post

So as it turns out, I had a ton of time to take off work so with all those days, I decided to make my way up to Boone, NC to help Rory Marrett celebrate his recent graduation.

On my way up there, I stopped in Hickory, NC and kicked it with homie Joe Matty and headed up to Greensboro to skate the old 915 park, Joe managed to lace this pretty cool vertical soul stall, note the lace face:

Later that night we stopped by at the infamous Wizard saloon had a couple beers, and wound up at a weird late night bar I can't remember and learned all about hot wings and a cultural dance phenomenon called 'the cat daddy' absolutely fascinating.

The next day, NC homies came up and skated, got some footage, had a good time and NC native Chris Zachary put together this cool little edit of everyone shredding:

After that, I headed up to Boone to meet the homies and proceded to have an awesome evening.

For the remainder of the weekend, we explored this abandoned high school we found, this place was incredible.

The building itself looks like it was fully functioning one day and the next day everyone dropped what they were doing and just left, zombie apocalypse style, its wild...and very eerie.

Every window is broke, every door is kicked open, spray paint is everywhere literally everything that is breakable in that high school that isn't important to its structure, is either broken, or spray painted, kids somewhere just completely ravaged this thing.

After another awesome trip to Boone, I headed back to SC and got ready for the Christmas week to come.

After my short work week, this past Friday, I drove with Slobey up to Nashville, TN to kick it with his fam for a day and do a little skating, after some good shredding with locals Chad and Taylor, we turned in for the evening and got ready for family times.

Boone Trip 02 Part III

Another awesome day to conclude this crazy weekend. There was a lot less skating and a lot more chilling today but man it was fun. We spent a good deal of our day getting our nature on drinking beers and throwing frisbees in the mountains.

The day ended with a few slices, a few beers, and this really weird, really random half pipe somewhere in the middle of the mountains. Jon managed to keep the daily picture trend going with this pretty wild backflip 180 spinny madness maneuver:

After that, Garrett and I headed back south to the homeland and started to get ready for the week ahead.

Yard grease, halfsocks, shoes, and stubbed toes included, this weekend was awesome and hopefully only one of many more to come in the next few coming months. But for now, I'm tired so I'm going to bed, see you dudes next weekend.

Boone Trip 02 Part II

Day 2 in Boone started off right with a home cooked meal, and many cups of joe and kicking it in the beautiful mountain weather.

Shortly after, we headed out to Wilkesboro, NC to skate a pretty fun competition put on by the young Mr. Hunter Kale. It was really cool to see all the youth out and shredding hard, it was a pretty good turn out and was a really good time. Blake Hyatt came thru with the win, followed by the savage Slobey in 2nd and Thomas Martin in 3rd.

After the comp and some food we headed out to skate downtown Wilkesboro to help Jon Cooley film for his up coming Day in the Life for Chosen few and after today it's definitely not one your going to want to miss.

There was definitely a lot more footage than photos but I did happen to capture this crazy Slobgnar Disaster Topsoul:

After the session we headed back to the Martin Mountain home mansion to kick it and eat delicious food.

I swear everytime we come to Boone, we always end up getting a lot of crazy blading done, drink thousands of beers, and eat the finest food, it's a good/fun lifestyle to have, no yard grease.

Anywho, the day was accomplished the night is young, the beers are many. Got one more day to kick it and do some skating.

Boone Trip 02 Part I

So after work on Thursday Garrett and I headed down to Boone, NC to go kick it with the spolf twasting Boonenites.

Upon arrival and a couple beers, we headed out to go see a Dr. Dog show, needless to say it was awesome.

Later that night we headed back to Thomas' new mountain house and continued the party, chilled in the hot tub for a bit, threw knives at peoples faces and then called it a night.

The next morning we didn't have any real plans other than to just kick it, but low and behold we wound up going to an amazing spot and getting some really awesome photos:

The night ended with grilled deliciousness, and hot tub times...well I say ended but its only 9 and you never know with the Boone folk.

Well, the past month or so has been really crazy. I've had a lot of work on the side and a lot of people staying at my house mostly to go skating. Footage has been abundant but pictures have not...until this weekend anyways.

Phil Gripper and Stefan Brandow have been in town a lot skating and its been very productive and a lot of fun. This past weekend we really handled business and got a lot of really cool rollerblading stuff done. Here are a couple pics:

All in all its been a pretty radical past month and I'm still very busy with other projects but the ball is still rolling and there should be a lot more coming in the future. So stay tuned.

Asheville n Good Times

So this weekend, my travels took me to Asheville to meet up with good friend Dustin Hinson to skate and see and awesome band called Holopaw.

The show was incredible in its entirety, including the guys they (Holopaw) were touring with (Witches.) I have to say though, the highlight of my evening was definitely getting to meet the talented Mr. John Orth. I'd been a big fan of John's for sometime now and meeting him was really cool, he was an incredibly nice guy that was excited to talk with me and wound up just giving me a free Holopaw poster that he had designed, definitely made my night.

The following day, during our search for awesome rollerblading spots, Dustin and I came across this really colorful angle iron ledge and just kind of knew we had to take a picture there, and picture taking we did:

After we'd had our fill on that ledge we went out and filmed at a couple more awesome spots around town. Towards the end of the day, we came across this crazy slide just hanging out at some community center complex, immediately is became very clear what had to be done.

So all in all, a very successful and fun weekend in Asheville.

I've decided on the lettering and am currently designing the logo for the video so the ball is moving in the right direction with GTH.

Also, if you've never heard of Holopaw or Witches you really should check them out, they are two pretty awesome bands.

It's been a crazy couple weeks and there hasn't been a lot of filming or skating for that matter but I did get to attend the Starnes' A Town Stomp and that was a blast like Atlanta Always is:

Arsenio killed it all day and brought home second that was pretty awesome. Also, Nick Bates got taken out early due to a pretty nasty spill and came home with the Nancy Kerrigan Award...hahaha good job buddy.

Steady Shred Times

Lately, skating has been awesome, we've been getting a lot of footage and a lot of good pictures for the Blade Book Vol. 2. I can't wait to start editing this and hopefully getting some promo stuff on the internet.

I'm really trying to make some kind of edit in the next couple weeks, so stay tuned for that, and I'm still working on the artwork and will hopefully have some of that to post soon as well.

Arsenio Patterson Throwback Edit

Well this is crazy, this edit is comprised of about 2-3 years of footage we never wound up using. Originally, all of this footage was meant to head off to New York for one of Arsenio's friend's videos but its just been chillin in the archives for past 4-5 years instead.

I always hate seeing old edits where kids are so tight because you always think, 'man he used to be so good, I bet he sucks now.' Well I can assure you that is not the case with Arsenio. Over the past few years he's only been getting better. In fact, in the past month we've gotten an entire section's worth of footage that is all better this this old stuff, so stay on the lookout, because there are some radical things coming from this guy in the near future.

A Quicker Update

Lots of skating has been going on with lots of filming and design work.

I been spending time figuring out expenses and how to make the video the way I want to. I think this go around I'm only going to make 100 copies and once they're gone, they'll just be out of print. I'll be very surprised if I sell 100 of them, but hey its good to have goals right?

Quick Update

Had a good couple weekends here lately. Garrett and I went out looking for a spot to go tubing/a good swimming hole and found a pretty good one, rope swing and all:

We'll definitely be hitting that thing up in the near future, it was a blast.

Homie, Stefan Brandow came and skated in Greenville with us this weekend and we had an awesome and productive bunch of skating. I didn't shoot much else photowise but I managed this decent snap of him boosting off of a new spot we found recently:

We also rapped about a really cool idea for next year that could wind up being something really cool, so we'll see how that goes.

All in all, it was a good couple of past weeks with a grip of filming, I'm really trying to have this video done by the new year so I've been really busy filming and getting ideas together of how I want to accomplish this thing.

In the meanwhile I also want to get the blade book vol. 2 finished up so I've got a lot of work to do in the coming months.

New Video Announcement

Before I get to the news, I have a couple radical photos to share.

I got to skate with Arsenio last weekend and man did he lace, I think I logged about 30 clips. He is definitely one of the easiest people to shoot with, he has an entire arsenal of tricks at his disposal and can unleash them on request...its quite a thing to see.

I also got to skate with homie Nick Bates that has also been very on point lately, Nick and I have been collecting a lot of footage and it's all very exciting. This isn't my favorite photo I've ever shot but the spot was weird with the bush and it was a cool trick:

As of May 20, 2011 I started filming for my 3rd video installment. Up until now, a lot of friends I wanted involved in the project have been hurt and I've just been waiting on their recovery to begin another video, that and after SOMO I deinfinitely needed a break. And a lot of details are up in the air about it but its definitely started and I'm pretty excited about it.

Filming for SOMO was some of the best times in my life, and while I know that I can't recreate any of that, I have pretty high expectations for this video as well. I definitely plan on spending a lot of time out of town and in new places I haven't been so I can meet and film a lot of new interesting people. So fill up your gas tanks and grab das beers, because travelin' time is now. I'll see you guys soon.

I have been so incredibly busy but on a good note, my studio/office is up and running (aside from new furniture hahaha) so updates should get back to regular here soon. check it out:

Now having that said, the past couple weekends have involved a lot of rollerblading as well, between the attending the Pow Wow, Mr. Dustin Hinson visiting, Mike Torres (Roc City) visiting, helping friends get footage and getting back into the swing of getting clips and filming regularly myself, I've got a couple cool things to show you guys. Firstly, here are a bunch of random pictures from all of that:

These past couple weeks have been absolutely outrageous. I honestly don't think I can begin to tell all the stories I have to tell in one post, and honestly I'm extremely tired. But I can say that I've been having a blast, and there has been a lot of crazy blading going on this entire time. As to not bore you, here are a couple pics.

The weekend I started moving into my new apartment, The Trevors and myself made a quick ninja spot check whilst filming for the project we've been working on together. Jeremy kind of surprised me with this rather dangerous trick, not my best photo but I think you can gauge the difficulty of this trick thru the photo:

A couple weeks later, Garrett and I rolled out to the Pow Wow with long time homie Mike Torres, and had an absolute blast, it was one of the best blade trips i've ever been on...aside from the terrible redneck suburn that is. hahaha, getting to skate Kona was kind of surreal, I'd always heard about it and seen it in videos but until I got there, I didn't realize how awesome it all really was, just to be skating that park.

One night, randomly, I had a really sick session with Arsenio Patterson and the dude is on his game more than ever, he asked me to help him film for his friend's video, and we got a lot of that done but we did manage this pretty clean picture:

The next day, Nick and I got this pretty decent shot of him doing a trick he never does, Nick has definitely been on a mission lately so definitely stay tuned for more from this guy:

That's about it for an update. Unfortunately the edit I hoped to have done is coming along a little slower than planned but I'm still kicking some ideas around so there should be some new video popping up on the blog soon.

Once again, for the first time in a long time, I have way more projects on my plate than I have time to finish. I do have a list though, and I'm getting myself in place to check it all off very soon hopefully.

Settling in

Recently I've had a lot going on, so the updates have been really slow. I just finished moving into my new place and getting situated at an awesome new job, so the posts should be happening on the reg again.

Rad Dudes & Good News

Before I get into this new post, here are a couple pictures from the last couple weekends.

Tucker laced this pretty clean Fishbrain:

And David Mefford did this gap that I've been wanting to do since I've seen this spot...he's too good...I think I may need to Joey to break this kid's leg or something:

Firstly, chances are that Nick Bates is better than you at rollerblading, and kung fu, and thinking...and probably eating cheeseburgers.

Also, studies indicate that Nick may possibly be the best underrated skater of my generation. Of all the under appreciated dudes in the game, Nick Bates is by far the most shat on. Since I've met Nick, about 5 years ago he's been on top of his game and so far beyond everyone else's that its almost comical.

There will be times when Nick and I are skating and he lands some ridiculous trick and comes off the obstacle looks at me and we both just start laughing in amazement that he actually landed this trick...what this kid is capable of is amazing and I've been dying to show the world.

I could go on forever about what a cool kid Nick is but I'm sure I've said it a million times already so I'm just going to show you some cool pictures we snapped this weekend.

Kenny Owens is a man that needs no introduction, if you don't know who Kenny is by now, you haven't been paying attention and you get detention. As a matter of fact, I feel like a grom just introducing this guy on my blog. I have been an avid follower of all things KO since Say Word Bob (microsoft jokes anybody?) and hung on every edit he's posted online.

Kenny has been around the video game for some years now, and up until now was mostly known for that skill. Recently, however, he broke into the photography game and hasn't blinked an eye.

Now I've seen Kenny's work online and was really into it but it wasn't until I, along with a Mcmanus and Tucker, took a trip to Charlotte to see his Photo Gallery that I actually understood what he was up to. Talking about it won't really do it justice you just had to see his massive wall of awesome prints to grasp it.

Be sure to be on the lookout for more KO work because I'm sure he's not even close to being done.

And lastly, Garrett Slobey. Garrett is a man of many hats and one of those hats is made out of cocaine...at least you would think so because of his absolute disregard for body, life and well being on the rollerblades. Garrett's another guy that doesn't really need any introduction, and if you've ever seen him skate, you know why.

I was originally planning on realeasing them with an edit, but its just taking me forever to get somewhere where I can set my machine up, so for now, here is both a glimpse of what is to come and proof that Garrett Slobey does not slow down.

That Garrett edit will be out soon I swear.

And on a personal note, after 4 years at FOX as a Graphic Artist, I handed in my 2 weeks resignation and I'm headed to work at a local ad agency here called Erwin Penland. Its pretty exciting to be moving up in the motion graphics world and I'm really looking forward to working normal hours for the first time in my life...ever. hahaha

Also I have a new apartment shortly after in the mix so things are going to be staying pretty busy around here. Updates might be a little scarce until I get in my new place and start working just one job, but I'm sure I'll manage to shoot a picture here and there so stay tuned!

Another Fire Lake Update + News

For the past 2 weeks or so I've been pulling in at least 75 hrs in hopes of landing a new job. Thus, I've been extremely busy, but in life, there is always time to rollerblade and hang out with the homies...you just stay really tired hahaha

We managed a pretty good sized session this weekend and managed to snap these couple of photos and those in attendance. Unfortunately, a larger half of the group arrived as we were all leaving...we have got to get our watches synchronized.

For anyone who is interested, I've done a lot of designing these past two weeks, here are a couple:

Those are just a few, nothing to crazy, but its definitely been keeping me busy. You can always check out my flickr if you're interested in seeing what else I've been up to.

Lastly, a few months ago, Jeremy Lister and Justin Oliver (aka the Trevors) came to me with an idea for a project involving the two of them rollerblading, and a camera, naturally I was interested.

For the past while we've been threatening to join forces and make something awesome but time and schedules have just kept us from getting together and starting this thing...until now anyways.

I don't want to divulge too much information on this project just yet because there are still alot of kinks to iron out, but this project is slowly turning into something I've been wanting to do for a long time morphed with a double-headed tiger-blooded giraffee that is otherwise referred to as 'The Trevors.'

So stay tuned for that and be sure to keep up with Oli and Jeremy as they blade their way thru the world.

Some Skatepark Goodness

Wow it's been what? Like better than a month since I've updated?...I'm slacking pretty hard. But in my defense my life has been absolutely wild. In the midst of needing a new place to live, taking on what has basically become a 2nd job, battling a cold and skating, I've had no time for the internet, its a damn shame.

So anywho, a couple weeks back, myself Tim Taylor and one Mr. Lane Shilling took a trip to Firelake skatepark in Anderson, SC. And as always, it was very awesome and a lot of really awesome rollerblading tricks happened.

I'm sure I've said it a million times but I love Lane's skating. His skating is much like his personality, laid back, chilled out, and steezed the 99th power. Lane rolls around the park with an earned degree of swagger and a seasoned calm that he reminds me all to much of Tim Taylor...and there's nothing wrong with that.

The next couple of weekends or so I think I spent either working or just hanging out with friends and not doing much of anything else. However, this past weekend, was a different story, I did a lot of working but also managed to squeeze in a photo session with the greer homies and Asheville homie Nick P and got these pretty sweet pics:

That was definitely kind of a weak update but do not fear, I have some cool stuff in the works, I owe Thomas Martin another edit which should get underway sooner rather than later and also I haven't forgot about the Slobgnar Extravaganza I've been promising, its on its way, and its awesome.

I just need to get my feet planted in a new place and actually have somewhere to setup my computer to I can do some much needed importing.

Also, Greenville Mega Session/Kegger in August anyone? Details to come.

Mcmanus Extremity Relief Session & Boone Savagery

Well, get in store because this is about to be one massive post about the rollerblading I was apart of for the past few weeks.

As some of you may know, we held a Fund raiser to help Adam Mcmanus get some money so he could go see a doctor about his broken extremities. Garrett Slobey planned the whole weekend out, we had blading, live music, good people and brews.

On Saturday, around noonish, people started trickling in from out of town until pretty soon we we had a massive session going on.

Between Garrett, Kenny and myself, we managed to get 3 tapes full of radical footage that I made into this little edit:

Later that night, Garrett had arranged for ATL DJ mogul Ryan Purcell (better known as Oh Snap Kid!), and Phillip Gripper's band 'Modern Primitives' to play at a local bar here in town. The good times continued and everyone got pretty rowdy, it was a great night and ended early in the morning. Sunday, at which point we all parted ways and went back to our lives.

The following weekend, in need of some mountain weather and a break from a lot of personal things going on in my life, Garrett and myself decided to make a last minute trip to Boone to kick it with the Boonenites...this would prove to be a very wise decision.

Upon arrival, we sat around and talked, shot people with Garrett's new automatic Airsoft gun and as per usual Thoams and Cooley loaded me up with amazing footage, which I love. After some talking and some hanging out, we then headed out to the Boone Saloon. After an early night of drinking, we all got up and got the skating started.

The one thing that I love about Boone is that every time I go there I can't put the camera down, if Thomas isn't rolling some crazy rickety wooden obstacle, Cooley is throwing himself down some impossible drop rail...all the while collecting amazing footage of really radical dudes. This trip was no exception.

At the fist spot, for the first trick of the day, Garrett laced this Disaster Topsoul 2nd try:

From then on out it just kind of got ridiculous. It was a disaster battle each trick going bigger and crazier. So Rory Marrett and I kicked it on the sidelines with cameras while Jon, Thomas and Garrett handled business all day it was quite the thing to see. Here are a couple shots from the first spot:

The last spot was a trick Thomas had been talking about since we had arrived, and admittedly it was such a crazy idea that I really didn't think it was possible. But as usual, Thomas proved me wrong and laced this crazy Top Porn to Roll on this monstrosity of an obstacle:

After a long day of skating, we all headed back to the house to freshen up review footage and get our rations for the evening ahead of us.

It took about 30 mins to get lost in the mountains and wind up at this amazing mountain home that Anna's parent's had owned. It was a gigantic Cabin with 3-4 different levels 3 balconies, hot tub, encases in a forest, the works, I mean this place was awesome. To make the situation even better, the weekend before, Thomas had acquired swan meat via a hunting trip with his dad and Garrett had brought up lamb for us to eat as well. So with Thomas, Garrett and Anna handled business at the grill/kitchen we ate, we laughed, we drank and I passed out at 11 oclock haha:

After an awesome night, we all arose refreshed and ready to skate again before our long drive back home.

This day would prove to be just as awesome as the one before only involving a couple more naps than the last time.

The last spot of the trip was definitely where the footage/pics were had though. It was this cool little drop rail that we must have driven by every time we went up to Boone, but I saw it and new I had to take a couple pictures on it, check it out:

After this, we skated a handy cap rail and everyone got a couple clips, ate at the Coyote Kitchen and made our way back to Greenville, it was such a great weekend.

And lastly, Tim and I found/skated this awesome new icy ledge:

This particular weekend I move into my new place, so I'll be staying pretty busy for the next few days but don't worry because I have a lot of new footage of Thomas and Cooley and I'm damn near done filming with Garrett for his new edit, so stay tuned, goodness to come.

180: Honkytokin' and Secret Weapons

This past weekend myself and a couple homies attended Chad Anthony's Too cold to Blade Outside Comp in Nashville. It was a pretty radical weekend, unfortunately, there wasn't much filming happening because I did more skating than anything.

The one thing I did want to spotlight in Nashville was Asphalt Beach Skate Shop.

I'm really big into local blade scenes and even bigger into local blade shops and Asphalt Beach was nothing short of awesome. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a slew of Hot Rails and boxes sitting out front of the shop but inside is where it gets even better.

There are so few shops nowadays that don't rely on the sales of skateboards to supplement their income but Asphalt Beach is one of those few places, which I love. The place is wall to wall rollerblading, from rollerderby to the new Nimh video, this shop bleeds rollerblading.

The owner of the place, whose name escapes me right now, is actually a speed skater and a really cool dude. When we got there he was actually out skating but upon arrival greeted Garret with a big hug and rapped about skating for a minute, which I thought was awesome. We got a couple clips skating the box there and I'll post those next time but for now, here is a sweet picture of Seth Tru Mistrialing one of the perfect boxes there:

One of the things I did manage to get a picture of was one legendary Jordan Dale straight jumping off this really high roof before he got kicked out...cape, hairdo and all, it was definitely something to see:

Crowd Reaction

All in all, despite one nasty hangover that kept me asleep in the car for pretty much all of the
comp, Nashville was awesome, can't wait to go back.

But wait...there's more!

Phillip 'The Thriller' Gripper is the name and shredding is this man's business. Phil is that breed of rollerblader that laces hammers...usually for breakfast but mostly during the day and first try. If you haven't heard of Phil Gripper, you aren't doing your homework because this guy isn't on the up and up...he's pretty much been at the top of his game as far back as I can remember. So ladies and gentlemen, I'm happy to give you the first, of many to come Phil Gripper edit:

The Tim Taylor Interview

Tim Taylor still 360s off curbs. You know what I mean, you lace a trick, and as you're rolling away, up comes the curb so you throw a little spin off just because you're passing it and you can. I've always loved that because it's like rollerblading is already awesome so what can we do to make it more awesome...more rollerblading! I don't know about you guys, but when I was growing up I couldn't pass an obstacle without trying some kind of trick on it. I see a lot of these things in Tim Taylor's skating, to this day after his 15+ years in the industry, Tim still 360s off curbs.

For those you who don't know, Tim Taylor is the definition of rollerblading. He supports/skates/represents harder than any other person I know and you will never catch this dude in anything other than a blade shirt or a blank tee, Tim is rollerblading 24/7. Don't get me wrong, he's been known to get some business blading done, but 4 out of the 5 times Tim skates, there are no cameras, and no competitions, just friends and all the potential you can dream of. Sessions with Tim involve a lot of shit talking, a lot of being amazed and even more laughs. I can't think of a single session I've had with Tim where we haven't laughed hysterically about some stupid inside joke that we're stuck on for the entire day, and that's how I know this dude is genuinely enjoying what he is doing. Hopefully this interview will give you a little insight of the way my dude thinks because Tim is a solid, loyal friend and will still 360 the shit outta some curbs.

DD: Let's start off with the same generic beginning, name, age, years skating, and sponsors?

TT: Timothy Scott Taylor, 29, 15 yrs ++ Rollerblade and Denial

DD: Speaking of sponsors, it seems like you've been riding for Denial and RB since the dawn of rollerblading. Why is it that after all these years you've remained loyal to these companies?

TT: I have stayed loyal because I became friends with the guys running these companies years ago. Tom Hyser doesn’t pressure me and neither does Chris Majette or Adam Killgore. These companies have hooked me up and I appreciate it so much. But when it comes down to a contest or just whenever it was time to represent I keep in mind who has my back and skate my ass off for them. Business is Business and I am thankful they keep me on their OG/flow rosters.

DD: So you've been rollerblading for a long time, 15+ years. You have consistency of a robot and the trick vocabulary that closely resembles the number of definitions in the dictionary, tell me, can we expect a Tim Taylor going for pro edit in 2011?

TT: Haha oh yes. No need for the pro tag, I get paid blading all the time haha. Back flips for a dollar at your local skatepark.

DD: Hahaha that's perfect. So its 2011, a brand new year, and we've established that you're only limited in the rollerblading world only by your imagination, ultimately, what do you want out of rollerblading this year, what do you plan to do (with rollerblading)?

TT: Good question. 2011 has been good to me so far. I want progression out of rollerblading, I want all the dedicated guys in our industry to get paid. I want success and respect for rollerblading. As for myself, i just want to skate smarter in my old age.. definitely learn new tricks= progression.. you can always learn a little something…lots of aspects to get better at. Shit I might take up skating vert or something..I could learn so much just from that.

DD: Thus far in your rollerblading career, what has been your most gratifying accomplishment?

TT:Denial Tour 2002 Filming for Underestimated. Roces Europe Tour. Traveling with friends having a blast skating.

DD: And what has been your least favorite moment?

TT: All the injuries and sitting in hospitals. Friends quitting, seasonal bladers.

DD: Now on the more personal side of things, a lot of people don't know the sheer amount will power that Tim Taylor possesses. For instance, rumor has it, that you sometimes go months at a time without grinding just to see if you can...is there any truth to that? If yes, explain.

TT: I possess something. Will power is all. The not grinding thing is easy. There's so much you can do on skates and not grinding just helps you progress in different ways. There's times when all I want to do is grind stuff constantly cause I been on the no grind tip for so long. So it all balances out. You gotta be moderate with what you do is my advice.

DD: So rumor also has it (there are a lot of rumors about you Tim) that you have a gigantic collection of rollerblading paraphernalia including but not limited to, unopened skates, senate combs, clothing, etc...is this collection real?

TT: My collection kills. I have supported hard over the years..still buying skates just to collect when I was getting free skates. There's a few thousand dollars worth of skates. Clothing and stuff is just what I have picked up or acquired over the years. Senate comb yes I own one and can do some tricks.

DD: What is the one most coveted rollerblading item that you own?

TT: Hard Question. Guess some prototype Xsjado style Roces Graals. Walkable style liners. super comfy. Fiziks Frames.

DD: Are you ever going to let me get in there with a camera to take pictures to show the world your collection?

TT: Maybe one day. I have thought about it a lot and my world is small and who I let see my collection is even smaller. To this day only 4 to 5 people have seen it. Usually people geek out cause its pretty intense. Looking at it now I think holy shit I got problems or should be on Hoarders. Then I realize I just love rollerblading a shit ton and that’s that.

DD: What, if anything, what does the rollerblading industry need right now?

TT: Money ( takes it to make it) For the younger next generation crews/groms/skatepark kids to keep multiplying and turning over and over and over. Blade population needs to grow in a big way. More and more local events to keep these younger kids excited about skating also.

DD: Sticking with the subject of youth in blading, growing up, who inspired you to get out there and blade? Who got you juiced?

TT: Dustin Latimer Jon Julio TJ Webber . VG’s Suitable Material All my friends from school that got me started.

DD: So if you had never found rollerblading, where might we catch Tim Taylor on a Tuesday night, let's say around 7pm?

TT: Working out, In school, Hanging with my girlfriend. Its so hard to say cause there’s so much to do and seems like not enough time. Hell reading. On the Internet. Watching sports. Watching some series like Dexter or Sopranos etc. Chilling with a smile on my face. working somewhere trying to stack paper. Getting hassled by the police.

DD: As mentioned before, you've been rollerblading for a long time. Rollerblading definitely takes its toll your body, more so than most passtimes, so how have you kept going for so long? And what advice can you give to other dudes that aspire to rollerblade for as many years as you've managed to?

TT: Stretch a lot before and after, its hard cause, still to this day I wanna just laces up my skates and get to doing tricks. I wish when I was younger I took days off more often and stretched. My body is falling apart esp my feet from mistreatment. Nowadays I skate less often but when I do I try to for longer. For the older guys its about staying in shape.. so your days you don’t skate take thirty minutes and exercise..break a sweat and you will feel better. Eat healthy and take vitamins. Party less.

DD: Ok, switching gears, because I'm sure the world is dying to know about this unicorn of a legend, but tell me about the Junk Edit.

TT: Junk Edit just started out me and Johnny Ray filming messing around getting creative with objects in a skate park we both worked at. Getting creative on the blades. Have to thank J.ray for keeping me motivated and coming up with all sorts of ideas and set ups to skate. It was Johnny’s idea and vision.. I just bladed and filmed, helped as needed. It progressed into the Junk Edit and we both just kept it under wraps from everyone. This edit will happen man. Still to this day Johnny has a camera and we skate junk at Union St. Park and Noname Skatepark Ximeno just where ever. So to this day even we still film for it kinda hahaha even got some street junk edit stuff. So one day man.

DD: Do you think the junk edit will ever be made?

TT: Honestly I think it will. The tapes are available. The footage is logged. It’s sitting on the back burner just waiting. I am not in control of this. But I believe someone is going to take up the project and make it all happen. The junk edit is like a wine just waiting, getting better and better, aging.

DD: In finality, I heard Benke schools you in some Tiger Woods.

TT: Oh man that game. T woods is the man. I am waiting for him to get his golf game back on track and watch all the haters jump on his nuts again. Benke is a fierce gaming competitor, scary at times haha. He didn’t school me. I schooled him and don’t even own a wii.

DD: Hahahaha, shotouts and shit?

TT: All the S.C. dudes that keep blading hard no matter what they got going on in their lives. Dodge for always putting in work and taking photos/filming. Adam Killgore and Majette & Tom Hyser.

Well, my life has been crazy this past few weeks. I spent Christmas day on a couch throwing up and not hanging out with family, which sucked, but New Years Eve proved to be pretty radical. I can't believe its 2011 last year just went by so fast, here are some cool things on the Internet.

I know I've been lacking in the posts lately but its not out of laziness, in fact I've been incredibly busy.

As you may know, Atlanta's superstar duo that is Footage Tape are putting together quite the extravaganza for the blade world on December 4th.

Firstly, for the past couple months, Jamie Olmstead has been steady hustling the new Be-mag project called 'Sideshow Rodeo' and from the looks of the trailer/things I've heard/things I've seen it looks amazing...to quote Kevin Dowling:

Jon Cooley ShrEDIT

You probably haven't heard of this kid, which is a damn shame because Jon Cooley is nice on the blades. Ever since I've met this kid, he has been on up and up and constantly progressing. Jon is one of those kids that can skate anything anywhere with a level of confidence that makes you sick to your stomach. Recently, he became part of the mountain crew in Boone and its only made the kid that much better. You can definitely expect more from this dude because, as I've mentioned in earlier posts, him and Thomas do nothing but go to school and stack clips...well that and crazy mountain shit.

The Firelake Post

Successful weekend was successful. To start it off, Garrett and I got up early to shoot some photos for an interview he's doing. We managed to get a couple gnarly flicks before Garrett had to head off to work and start fixing up a bike to race. Later on that day, myself and a couple of duders headed up to Firelake Skatepark in Anderson again to have an awesome session, and man we did.

It's always a treat when I get to see my super ninja blader bud Lane Shilling. Lane is a ninja, and I like ninjas so naturally, I like Lane. He's a busy dude so I don't get to shred with him as often as I like, but on this particular day, the stars aligned and I knew I had to document it. Here's a pic of Lane doing a rad Top Mistrial:

Also in attendance was my good pal Dustin Hinson all the way from Asheville. Dustin has popped up a couple times on the blog, but not nearly enough. With the two of us living in different cities and on completely different schedules, Dustin is also a dude I don't skate with near enough/film enough and since we were in that situation I felt like I had to capture the moment:

After a long day of blading, I headed out to my friend Oli's house to celebrate his 21st bday, (happy birthday man!) and then headed back home to get some much needed sleep.

The next day, we cooked, we carved, we drank, and we ate. Our first annual, PCP (Pumpkin Carving Party) went off with a bang. It was nothing crazy...well except the Josh Amacher Luchadore sighting...that was admittedly awesome and strange:

New Thomas Martin Edit

Thomas and Jon have been stacking clips and annhilating Boone, NC on the regular for the past the couple months. When they came to town a couple weeks ago, they gave me a ridiculous amount of footage to edit, which I love. I think all in all I had about 12 mins of cut footage for Thomas' edit, and another 8 for Jon's, so I was really able to pick from the best of what they had to make a really sick profile.

So, I'm really happy to release this full length profile of the mountain dude, Thomas Martin, I think its definitely some of his best skating to date. Enjoy!

Next on deck is Jon Cooley, and I love this kid's skating. You probably haven't heard of him because he another one of our underground blade weapons that has been slaying for some time now but, in the coming months, I'm trying to change that. So get ready for some awesome content in the weeks/months to come because I have a couple of awesome dudes lined up for some edits.

Anywho, at the rate these dudes are getting footage, I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one more edit of them pop up before 2010 is out, if not more.

On a side note this is the first full HD edit I've made, so I guess this marks my first entry into the HD world...about 3 or 4 years late.

Good Blade Days

A weekend full of blading and it was awesome.

The day started at about 12 or so with spot scouting with Tim until our day was cut short by my car dying on me :(

Luckily, Tucker came to the rescue, chilled with me until the tow truck arrived and drove me up to Fire Lake skatepark to skate with homies Juan and Nick. We had a really good session and I managed to grab a couple flicks of the homies:

We stopped skating around 10 and headed back home for some much needed rest.
Sunday panned out pretty much the same way with a lot of park skating and then a slice and brew to end out the night.

Also, about a week ago, Adam, Nick and I all went out and had a sick early morning session and got a couple of cool flicks:

Hammer Blading

This weekend was absolutely wild, not only in terms of skating, but just...well in every way.

The weekend begun on Friday after work at Garrett's. I arrived to Garrett & co plus a couple beers. Mcmanus and the Boonenites arrive late and we stay up even later talking about what the next day holds.

So after a long night with very little sleep we get up and make some breakfast.

Garrett manned the Cappuccinos/Joes:

After a hearty breakfast and a little hanging out, we left for the first spot to meet Mr. Jamie Olmstead. I didn't really document the first spot, because Jamie was filming and I actually really liked skating this spot. But after getting a couple clips and warming up at the first spot, we headed out to do some gnarblading.

Also, on a semi-unrelated topic, one of my best friends/All American Hero, Nate Macgregor got back from Iraq and came out and shredded with us, it was so good to see this dude skating again. He literally hadn't skated in about a year and came back like he never left, it was really awesome to see my dude shred it up again.

This spot was a massive 19-20 stair handrail that appeared to be at a 45° incline and had a huge plastic barrier at the bottom right to the side of the rail. Despite all of these obstructions, Garrett, Thomas and Cooley get to work.

After this we skated a gnarly kink rail but my camera died, so for the rest of the day, it was all footage....a lot of crazy footage.

After the hammers were laced and the day was out, we headed back home to get food and party.

The partying was awesome, rowdy, and wild, had a blast and then it was time for sleep.

After a goodnight sleep, breakfast, Emanon, and Volume, we decided to try and beat the rain to get in some last minute blading before Jamie had to leave. So, In the most awesome ninja/business blading session I've ever had, I got a lot of footage, and this really awesome picture of Garrett:

After we did everything we needed to do there, it just went off. I spent most of my time filming, so I didn't get any picture of the madness, but there is so much footage.

So the last spot turned out a lot shorter than expected because of the rain, but Thomas and I managed to get this really awesome of pic of him on this rather deadly obstacle:

We all parted ways, myself and a couple other locals skated some park, and then I came home to stare at my lady and write up this blog.

All the footage we shot this weekend is going to Jamie for his current project, which should be awesome. You should be able to catch it all when it drops sometime in November.

I'm taking it easy this coming weekend but there will most likely be some chillerblading sessions happening, so gimme a call.

But no worries, SOMO3/6/Ain't no Lobos is in the works and promises to deliver, and since I've finally moved into the millennium and purchased an HD cam, it might even look a little better too.

Adam's new park/street joint is edited/compressed and ready to view I'm just going to give SOMO some breathing room and post it next week...maybe tomorrow if I get enough comments requesting it, otherwise I'll wait til next week.

But anywho, there is about to be multitudes of skating this weekend, and if you aren't on board, you should be so hit me up!

Old Dogs New Tricks

Had a super good session this weekend with a bunch of homies. We found this really awesome new rail spot and took Tim there to get a couple clips and a nice flick, its not the best shot I've ever taken but the trick was perfect:

After we finished up there, we headed over to this spot where we been frequenting a lot lately
and right after Nick laced a couple clips, we got a pick of this sweet topsoul he did on the higher part of the ledges:

And that pretty much wrapped up the blading for this weekend.

I've been really busy working on a lot of blade content, having a camera again is pretty awesome, we've been able to have a couple really productive past couple weeks.

On Monday, I'm uploading a new Mcmanus short, and I'm pretty juiced about it. Its half street and half park and all raw. My dood has definitely been stepping up the game and I'm juiced to see what we're going to be able to put together this year.

I designed this poster from a shot I found on the Smithsonians Flickr a little while back and I'm pretty juiced about it, now I just have to find the money to print it haha. I designed it at 39x60, but that's going to cost like $110 just to get it printed, so I'm probably going to wind up with something half that size...I think it'll look good in my new apartment.

Also, with the new camera, I've decided to hold off filming for a new video for now and releasing a lot of online content and just giving footage away as its needed. Hopefully I can get a couple names out there that need to be out there and get people excited about what's going on around here because the scene is definitely picking up and its pretty awesome.

Anywho, the homies are in town next weekend, so blade times as always. See you there!

A day with Garrett Slobey

So I recently moved into a really sick new pad near downtown Greenville and who lives two doors down from me but the one, the only, Slobey-won-Kenobi.

For those of you who don't know who Garrett is...well, you probably haven't seen a Rejects video ever. Garrett hails from that gnarly crew of dudes that used to skate drop rails throw knives at peoples faces. With my new domicile being so close to Garrett means only good things for 2 reasons, 1. Garrett is always cooking some kind of delicious food at his house/drinking good beer that he loves to share and 2. Garrett is down with blading all day and anywhere.

So, Garrett calls me at noon and says he wants to skate which was all the motivation I needed. So we go grab a bite, warm up and then get to business. Here are a couple pics from the day:

After a good session, we headed back to our homes, cleaned up and then went back over to Garrett's house for amazing food and night of glass smashing good times.

Kevin Dowling and the Olympus Madness

I just spent the last 24 hrs with Kevin Dowling as he finished up his Olympus Your Story entry and dammit did he deliver.

You need to immediately watch this video (in HD) and like it on Youtube and post it on your facebooks, skate blogs and everything because it is damn well deserving.

Wow, what a day. I'm just going to start from the beginning because honestly this is just stupid.

Ok for those you who don't know, Kevin Dowling was a finalist for the Olympus Your story Challenge and was given $5k and a brand new Olympus PL-1 to basically show the world what was up in his life. With the money, he took Montre and Rob G to film and skate the rawest parts of New York and show the world our lifestyle thru the eyes of real life rollerblader. Well 8 days in, his camera gets stolen. (click here for that full story) and he has to head back to NY to refinish filming so he can finish this thing up...

Well on his way back (the 1st) he calls me and tells me his deadline is Aug 2 @ 11:59 PM and that he is much in need of the Motion GFX I had yet to create for him. So I decided to take a personal day and that we would just post up in a coffee shop and edit all day long. No problem right?

Well he’s editing all night on the ride home from NY, and gets to Spartanburg at about 12:00 PM and we head to a coffee shop to do some work. We get to the coffee shop, say our hellos and begin to work, no more than 2 hours in, he gets a phone call from his sister saying “If you want to tell your grandma goodbye you need to come home now, because she’s in bad shape and isn’t going to last another day” devastating.

So Kevin looks at me and says “Dude…I have to go, its my grandma.” At this point, he doesn’t have 2 hours to use driving, like we can not get this thing done if uses 2 hours to drive. So I look at him and say alright man, let’s go.

So Kevin is editing the whole way there, nonstop, cranking things out. We get to ATL to the hospital his grandma is at and its just crazy, Kevin basically he spends the next 5 or so hours running back and forth between editing and talking to his grandma...just crazy. All the while I’m sitting outside in the car working on motion graphics trying to get all this in order so we'll be good to go when we get to that point.

So I get finished, go grab my Subway and just pass out in the car. Kevin wakes me up at like 9, still has to edit the intro, but it was time to head home so me and Kevin pack up and get out that way.

So on the 30 mins to his house he gets the intro nice and done, and we make final adjustments render it out and slam it online...just crazy.

I wound up actually staying in ATL that night because we didn't get to bed until like 3, and to top things off, the next morning I had to be to work at 11...just a crazy day but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. This Olympus challenge could be a really sick thing for the industry as a whole. So please don't let this video fizzle out, go to Youtube and like this video, the whole rollerblading community has pulled together for this one, so don't stop now.

Its been a good week for blading

It's been a good week for getting shit done. So, the post before this I announced the completion of The Blade Book Vol. 1, which I'm still really excited about and now I have some more goodies for you internets.

Shredfest 2010

This comp went off with a bang. We had a grip of people there and tons of prizes to give out and I can't tell you guys how happy I am with the way it turned out.

Rollerbladers from Georgia, North Carolina, and all the local homies came together and skated all day and I am so happy they did.

So firstly, thank you to the sponsors for donating all the product and help that you provided with the comp, you made it awesome and I couldn't have done it without you. Thanks to Eric for letting us host the comp at your park.

Secondly, thanks to all the homies that judged, skate, and/or showed up, that was really awesome.

Super quick update...GO!

I injured my ribs the other weekend falling on a handrail so I wasn't able to do much skating this weekend. But after a short/fun sesh with Riley and Johnny, we headed out to the Greenville side of town for good times and brews...all were found.

On July 4th, (America wooo!) we got up sort of late from the previous nights festivities and met up downtown with Thomas Martin, and Adam Mcmanus. After a couple beers, Thomas found a spot he wanted to snap a quick flick on, and man did he:

Finally...an Update

Well well well internets, long time no pics.

I've been doing alot of skating lately but even more working. Fortuneately for me, the freelance has been coming in pretty steady and I've been able to buy a couple cheeseburgers and drive to skate places with the homies.

One particular day during the week, I caught up with Johnny, Jeremy, and Oli, for some late night shredding, nothing crazy just some kickin around and fun times.

Also a couple weeks back I made it out to the Boots Burgers and Bangers comp, and it was really sick. I got to hang out with a bunch of homies I hadn't seen in a while and also got to meet a lot of cool new ones. I didn't really shoot because I actually skated, but during the afterparty/aftersesh but I managed a couple photos.

After making our traditional Mexican food stop and having a couple beers, Kevin, Walt and I decided we wanedt to go do a little shredding. At this point, Mcmanus was already well on his way beer wise, so as we get to the spot, him and Dunkle decide to go to a bar and wait out the session, no problem.

We immediately get kicked out of the first 2 spots and decide that its time to call it a night and go to Troy's after party. Well as we're about to leave we come to the realization that we have no idea where Mcmanus and Dunkle are. About 30 mins and 10 phone calls later Adam finally calls back and informs us that he and Dunkle had found their shots and were going to sneak into the Neil Young concert, whom apparently was playing right down the street, and that we should just go on our way because he's just going to rock out to Neil Young, awesome.

So we wait around for a minute and discuss whether or not leaving Adam & Dunkle, drunk, downtown ATL trying to sneak into the Neil Young concert is a good idea...what the hell right? Their grown. So we all head back to the car, and literally as we do Adam and Charles walk up and begin to tell us the story of how they almost got to see Neil Young, good times. Here the couple pics I wound up with.

Last but not least, I also got to kick it with super homie Kevin Dowling.

For those of you who don't know, Kevin does a lot of shit in his life. If he's not spending time with his child, cornering the photography game, cranking out footage tape episodes, or blading every single day, he's busy winning contests that are going to promote rollerblading in the illest way.

2 weeks without shooting a photo, I really just have been that busy. All my free time has been comprised of freelance work, short skate sessions...and that's about it.

This upcoming weekend however is the Boots, Burgers and hammers Event, and I'm very happy to say that I can actually make it out!

Its this Saturday at the Starnes' Bros house in ATL and it kicks off at 12. I'm pretty juiced about it, its been a while since I've been surrounded by large numbers of rollerblading brethren.

But anywho, hopefully I'll have some cool stuff for you guys next weekend, as of now, I have nothing tho

137: The Advantages of the Blade Game

Awesome dudes + brews + blading = one awesome weekend.

My weekend started with arriving at a random house only to be greeted by blade homies getting down with beer...always a strong start to the weekend. I got to speak with Charlotte native Kenneth Owens about his upcoming project Say Word 4 and I'm so very excited about it. Not to give to much away but he's talked of working with a badass blade artist, and is constantly in the company of the mighty James Reetzke...need I say more? Say Word 4 is going to be super legit and I can't wait for it.

On Saturday it was hot and muggy but it didn't stop us from having an ill park session. Check out a couple of the flicks we shot:

Sunday ended on a chill note with Asheville homies Nick and Juan at Taco bell. Nothing crazy, just good times and good dudes. 135: Adventures in Distant Lands

Wow, the past week has just been so crazy so I won't waste time with an introduction and just get rightt into it.

At some point in the beginning of the week, maybe like the 13th, when I got off work I met with my lady and our friend/bad ass photographer Ryan Crawford at his place for brews and to check out his projector/50 million slides his grandmother had just given him.

It originally started as a us just tracing the outlines of these slides and having some drunken fun but slowly turned into us sperlunking into his junk room with masses of electronics and God knows whatelse. Having that said, I'd like to introduce a new section to the blog called Shit I've found in Ryan's house:

After we had our fun there we went about our ways and got ready for the week to come.

On Thursday Ollie and Jeremy organized an impromptu blade session at the new Hendersonville Park and rolling about 10 it was a really awesome time and I highly reccommend taking the trip.

The following Friday, I took my girlfriend down to Charleston to give her a certain circular object (not phallic) and to just chill out and spend some time together, we stayed at the Not so Hostel on Spring Street and I have to say that place was cheap and awesome. If you're ever in Chucktown and need a place to crash, check that place out, its dirt cheap, and ridiculously awesome.

And after a chill session with the homies at the Spartanburg park yesterday, that about wrapped up my weekend. So now back to the crazy work reality until next week.

On Saturday myself and the lady went and shredded some park for a couple hours until we met up with homie Jeff Gonzalez. After a few spots fell thru, we found ourselves at this drop rail and copped this royale flick:

And that pretty much concluded Saturday.

Sunday, on the other hand, was an 8 hour blade day and I had so much fun all day. I did more skating than I've done in a really long time and it felt great. The best spot of the day was definitely this perfect bank to ledge we found a while back that we just failed to skate for some reason:

Nothing crazy, but alot of fun...and that basically concluded my weekend!

We kicked around the idea of a late night session edit there with the three of us (and possibly Tim), so that may or may not pop up sometime.

The online video is more organized than it has been in the past and is all together on a timeline and should be done as soon as I have some spare time so as always, stay tuned.

I might not update next weekend because I'm going out of town with the lady for a few days, but I might also get done with the online edit this week too so....LOOK OUT NOW!

One thing I have absolutely loved about being here in SC is the amazingly talented people I've been surrounded by, from badass Video Producers, to Illustrators, the people I rollerblade with are truely genuine/talented people.

Recently, I hit up friend Nicholas Pecararo about maybe creating a new lion for my the blog, and boy did he come thru, I did the layout and added the text but this lion Nick drew is perfect:

Nick Bates Lovefest '10

Well I only managed to shoot like one pic this weekend and it was of good friend Nick Bates.

As a preface, Nick has been skating better than everyone here since I've known him. Nick has got the most unusual/unique style that you'll immediately fall in love with. He can do any number of strange body contorting spins, and lace switch ups so smooth and so clean you'll wonder why you haven't seen him in the latest Xsjado Advert, the dude is just damn good. One of the coolest parts about his skating, is that Nick is a thinker and can break down his movements into straight up science. But beyond Nick and his uncanny blade ability, he is literally one of the nicest/funniest dudes you will ever meet and has been a good friend for a really long time. If you've met Nick you're probably his friend already and if you haven't met him, you're probably his friend and just don't know it yet, he's just one of those awesome people and I love getting to shred with this dude.

Hopefully, now that our schedules coincide a litter better, Nick being on here will be a normal thing.

Every since I saw this spot I always wanted to shoot a pic of someone doing this, so without hesitation Nick steps up and not only does this once, but 2, 3, 4 times until we got it right, the dude is just awesome, and the bank to this thing is horrible:

There isn't near enough video of Nick out there but that's something I'm really hoping to change this year. And with the right gusto and finances, its going to happen.
But until my sudden million dollar inheritance, come blade, we'll be shreddin' this weekend.

Alot of fun

Well well well, where to start? Over the past couple of weeks, alot of awesome shit has gone down.

On the 7th, a whole crew of us went up down to columbia to skate their new concrete park Owens Field Skatepark and I decided to bring out my old ghetto fisheye and shoot some pictures for old times sake, and here's what I came up with...once again, this fisheye is so bad...haha

A couple of Favs:

So nothing crazy there but a ton of fun and we will definitely be tripping back there and sometime soon.

A couple weeks prior, I ordered a new flash for my camera and luckily it came in just before the weekend, so natrually I was itchin' to shoot some new photos and what better way to test them out them for the sunglasses party!

And the Sunday after a 3 hours of sleep and a really early morning the lady and I mustered up the energy to go skate with the homies for a hot minute and it actually turned out to be quite productive.

Tucker laced this pretty clean Sweaty on the drop rail that was very high, I didn't do a very good job of shooting it, but it was pretty cool so...:

A week later, my lady, Lauren, Adam and Ollie, constructed a plan to take a barrier from twin towers before they fenced it off. Well, they suceded and we took full advantage and set this barrier up at a bank spot, and Mcmanus came through with the footy:

And that about wraps up what I've been up to for the last couple weeks. I remembered a ghetto MiniDV camera I was given so Mcmanus and I decided to shoot a 3 day edit over the next couple of days, so I'm thinking that should be up.

Also, almost all of the Online Video Pt. 2 is edited I just need to finish some titles and finish up the post, and booom, done. Other than that, skating this weekend and probably some beers too, holler.

Twin Towers Final Session

Much like the Lot in Anderson, and Union Street in Spartanburg, the man has taken away yet another awesome makeshift skatespot to try and make a buck. Well I suppose I should hold my tongue because I admittedly don't know what their plans are with this place.

What I do know is how much this sucks. I've really enjoyed that place, and its hassle free environment, there are so very few places you have that in Greenville already so this place going cuts down the options even more.

I've heard there is talk of fencing off the area due to 'liability issues' until they can create a "safer" /aesthetically pleasing skatepark, to the general masses anyway, in a very small corner of the new recreational park they are also planning on constructing over the old Poe Mill that now serves home to the skateboarders/rollerbladers/bikers that can't afford to pay 10 dollars everyday to skate. Those are the rumors anyway and I don't really know all the facts, so take it for what it is.

Regardless, we took advantage of the last day as did many others and shot a couple photos just in case this place goes away so check em out:

That about sums it up. I'm probably going to go by tonight and see if the fence has been constructed as rumored, and then count the hours until the fence is torn down by those who put so much hard work into making that place as sick as it was.

The Boone Times

Well well, here I am, finally back on the game with some things to show you.

For those of you who didn't know, this past Wednesday (the 17th) was Mr. Mcmanus' birthday, and to celebrate the newly turned 21 year wanted to go to Boone with all the homies and have a grand ole time, so sum this up quickly, mission accomplished.

For the most part, the weekend consisted of a lot of drinking but amidst the piles of snow and drunken debauchery, we did find one spot we could skate and Thomas laced this super clean Tru Fish:

And that pretty much wraps up our trip to Boone.

Also, I've got a bunch of sections edited, but I have alot of work this week to do with this logo I'm designing so they may not get up this week, but as always, we shall see.

Super Awesome. Swine Flu. Been out of work all week and cannot wait to get better. A visit from the Jersey Dudes

This weekend, we got a suprise visit from the Jersey dudes (Erik Stokley, Chris Dafick, and friend Greg). It was a fun weekend filled with beers, blades and crazy stories about pumpkins...

SOMO: The making of - Part I

Ok, because of my lack of edits/pictures, I've decided to post about the making of the Mo-Graph in Montre Livingston's Section of Southern Motion.

So as always, any type of motion starts with Boarding, sketching and really anything that gets your creative juices flowing and geared in the proper direction. I always seem to forget how important this part of the process is, because when I sit down and really contemplate what it is I'm about to do, I can usually come up with some pretty interesting work. Here are a couple Boards/sketches that eventually wound up leading me to the final product.

From the get go, I always had the ideas of clouds on strings with vintage TVs. After I established that, I knew that I wanted things to be really textured and grungy to kind of give this raw, seasoned feeling.

After the Mo-boards and elements were decided on, it was time to actually design a canvas to be animated. After some thinking, I decided the best way to make this way design all the elements in a 2880x480 composition and get everything set up for after effects there. (Still below)

The "color swooshes" didn't really come into play until I got closer to the end of post production. I had always wanted to use elements like that in my motion work so getting to implement those was both challenging and fun. Initially, I was only going to use that look for Montre's section, but as the deadline neared, they (the color swooshes) became the consistent look in the video that I was needing.

I found the picture of Montre surfing through flickr on photographer Gene Steagall's page, and contacted him about letting me use this sweet flick that he took.

Its an awesome picture but there was just one problem, I needed to have the rest of his body in the shot, so with a little digital trickery, I recreated his arm/part of his shirt so it could be used in the intro. If you look closely you'll notice some weird sploches (and the beer bottle caps in his hair :P) but all in all it did exactly what I needed it to do, work. haha

When I made my first video, Hand Made!, one of two of my friends had gotten in touch with Tom Hyser about possibly helping me distribute it. Well when I went up to Boone for a Comp Thomas Martin was holding and actually had a chance to meet Tom and talk about the video.

He kind of gave it an "its ok but not great" rating, and understandably so, it was my first video and I admittedly over-edited Tim's section and a couple other things, so I wasn't that upset with his rating. The thing that got me thoug was after he finished telling me what he thought of it, he made a point to say:
"And man I HATE when kids roll through the grass after they land a trick, it just bothers me." (or something along those lines)
Now this I thought was hilarious, and, in my mind, open the door for running "grass landing jokes." So the whole animated concrete into Montre's, very deliberate, grass landing had to happen.

Apparently he saw the video during the Colorado Road Trip and thought it was funny so it was well received and wasn't taken as some t-dog takin' shots at an OG rollerblader, which isn't the case at all because Tom is definitely the man. But there's the story behind that.

Once I finished all the designing and creating of all the elements, I imported the PSD into After Effects, animated the individual elements, and then nested that Composition (the original 2880x480 comp) into another 720x480 composition and moved the Nested Comp along its x-axis to give it look as if a camera were following the action. Thus giving us the final outcome that I edited into Montre's section (below).

And that about sums that up. If you have any questions, or comments about the method, feel free to drop them in the comments below, I love talking about projects and learning new techniques.

I'm hoping to do a similar one of these for Smiley's Introduction in the future. But until then, stay tuned! That online video is slowly coming together and will definitely be dropping soon.

Boone Mega Session Pic Post

Every time we trip up to Boone, two things always happen, 1) we get lost 2) we have a fucking blast and this time, we managed to accomplish the latter without completing step one.

We basically shredded and drank beer all weekend and had an awesome time. To spare all the words just have a look through all the pictures on facebook for some reason the uploader is being weird here so I'll try and post them within the blog later. I've sort of been in the process of moving...again...and because of that, I haven't really had alot of spare time, but the time I have had, I've been busy working away on my Everything Project and the 2nd Part to the online video.

Thus far in the Online Jam Pt. 2, I have three sections done and I'm really excited about how its turning out, so far, the video includes names like Dustin Hinson, Jeremy Lister, Adam Mcmanus, and Tim Taylor. Once this bad boy is wrapped up I definitely think there will be some fire for your domes, so just bare with me.

As far as awesome things on the internets go, I'm sure you've seen it by now but Chris Haffey's Drip Drop section is up and I'm only hoping its legitimately posted by the makers and not some wack pirated shit:

The Rain Maker and the Diddle Jaunce

Work has been crazy, and I only got to skate once last week :( but I did finish up the some more motion titles for this Solo Collective project. Steven Swain will be the next installment and it's dropping in the middle of week sometime I believe. So be ready for that.

I've been doing some editing on the Online Video part 2 in my spare time, which has been scarce as of late. And I'm really stoked to get the 2nd part finished, its going to have a bunch of profiles, and hopefully some fun animated jams, so stay tuned for all that jazz.

Oh also, I recently picked up a subscription to ONE Magazine, and its only like $15-$16 for like 6 issues or some shit like that, which is not bad...that's like the equivalent to two happy meals...or so I'm told...Basically put down the cheeseburger fatty, and pick up a subscription to some sick blade media, it's definitely worth it. And if nothing else, head over to ONE to check out they're ever so funny Webroll, it definitely provides the lulz.

Busy Still

Well this week I've been focusing alot of attention on finishing up these Titles for the RB Online Jam "The Solo Collective" which is cool because I love getting projects done haha. But because of that reason, I haven't really had alot of time for anything else. However, David Sizemore's section is apparently dropping on the 31st (of October) so stay on teamtrs.com and keep your eyes peeled for that, because that kid is good.

I only have like one day off this week, but I'm really hoping to get to some editing with this online video project this week. I have alot of fun ideas for the next installment, so that's promising.

Ok, as promised, here is part one of the Online Video I'm making, I hope you enjoy.

Also, I had originally intended to create/release a new edit every week, but in light of recent discoveries, I've decided to go in a different direction...let me explain.

Over the past 5 years of my tenure here in Greenville, I have been on numerous amazing blade excursions, most of which I documented digitally with my camera, and have massed somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-400 gigs of awesome adventures with my friends.

Now, I originally planned to release some sort of new/old edit a week because I still have a ton of left over footage from Southern Motion, but, the other night I sat down and started editing a section and before I knew it I had already edited 10 mins of really awesome footage. After I realized just how much work I'd done, I decided to go through all of that footage and see if there were some other gems, and boy were there. There were so many things that I filmed and planned on making edits of that just never happened, but now that I have some time, I plan on making an online video of sorts.

Much like the mighty Vibralux Online Video, I want to release this thing in sections and eventually as a whole. There will definitely be alot of skating old and new, including but not limitied to our Lousiville Trip, ATL day trip, Columba/Charlotte Mega Session, Hickory blade day, etc, but there will also be alot of stupid and funny things in between, because in all honesty, in between the skating, thats how we spent our time. There may be a couple clips you've seen before in older edits but I think for the nostalgic sake, it'll be ok.

So in finality, I'm really excited to finish this and really juiced for everyone to see it.
So stay tuned becasue I imagine the posting of this thing will be quite spontaneous.

Sorry it took so long to post this week, I just hate coming back with no visuals for you dudez on teh netz, and as it rained all week last week, there isn't any new hotness to show you so, check these old jams that you've never seen.

As stated above, I hate coming back with no visuals, especially without video, I mean you can read anywhere, there are only a few places you actually go for cool video though...right guys? So here's an edit I made a while back for my Mini-Clip Series, that I always knew would take a prolonged hiatus one day. Youtube took it down a while back because they hate Rilo Kiley and rollerblading...or some corporate shit like that. I've two other Mini Clip profiles and two which featuring Jeff Gonzales and Tim Taylor are still available on Youtube. Anywho, I re-uploaded Johnny Ray's Mini-Clip Section on Vimeo because its awesome and I like to stick it to the man when I get chances. So be sure to look at this, even if you've already seent it:

On a cool note, Mr. Morgan Reed sent me a bunch of awesome new footage for an edit so expect a Morgan Reed Round 2 edit, the stuff he sent me is basically visual fire.

In other news, make sure you pick up a copy of the new ONE Mag because they are being kind enough to review SOMO. Hopefully they enjoyed what they saw and don't completely hate the video, but then again, Smiley is in it,and he's pretty old...and fat so you never know. (haha i got you you fat bastard!)

And in finality....
I've sold/given out 40 videos thus far and no one has bothered to do a review. So either it sucked really bad or it blew your face off and your dead, either way, I want a damn review. Good/bad/whatever, if you hated it, tell me, if you semi-liked it, I'd also like to know, and if you're dead, get your friend or sibling to forge a review. haha I'm just kidding, its not that big of a deal, I'm just interested to hear peoples thoughts on the final outcome, so pretty please, with sugar on top, do the fucking review.
